What is Dashain?
Dashain is the longest and most auspicious festival in Nepal, celebrated by Nepalis all over the world. Lasting 15 days, it celebrates the victory of goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura — the triumph of good over evil. During Dashain, families come together, elders give tika and jamara to younger ones, and the whole country fills with joy, new clothes, and the smell of incense.

History & Significance ·
Dashain has been celebrated in Nepal for over 2000 years. It is rooted in the ancient Vedic tradition of Navaratri — nine nights of worship of the divine feminine. The festival marks the harvest season and the end of the monsoon. Historically, kings of Nepal would perform elaborate rituals and the Royal Army would receive blessings on Navami.
